Why we like Simon Sinek

ruth moran

At Nudge we’re real fans of Simon Sinek’s work and use it with organisations, teams and individuals. He uses the golden circle to differentiate between the what, the how and the why. People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.

Anyone can talk about what their organisation does but the smart ones know WHY they do what they do. They use their  ‘purpose’ to inspire, focus and get clarity on what to do and what not to do.  ‘Purpose, is not about making money, it’s about your cause, your belief; It’s the very reason your organisation exists’.

So if you don’t know your whys from your whats, we’d love to help you and your team develop purpose and use it to get focused and drive results.

Top 10 tips on presenting with impact

ruth moran

At Nudge we believe we can increase your productivity by 10% just by sharpening up the way you share and present information.

So here are just some of the ideas we share in our workshops that can immediately change the impact you have and the time you spend in meetings.

Tip 1:  WHAT?

Be really clear about the scope of your presentation and your key points.

Tip 2: THINK

Think about your audience, not yourself; think about what they’re interested in and what matters to them.

Tip 3: FRAME OF MIND

Get into the right frame of mind. Your body language speaks volumes and this will help you to convey your message clearly.

Tip 4: PURPOSE

What is the purpose of your presentation? What are you trying to achieve? - are you informing your audience, engaging them in a decision or asking them to do something for you?

Tip 5: PREPARE

Starting with a blank sheet of paper, think about your topic and possible content. Then pair it down to the essential key points for your audience and purpose.

Tip 6: STORY

Your presentation is like a story.  Think about the flow of your story, not the number of slides you want to talk through.

Tip 7: SIMPLE

Keep your visuals to a minimum and keep them engaging. It is true that a picture speaks a thousand words.

Tip 8: BREATHE

Before you’re due to stand up, start focusing on your breathing. Take ten slow breaths and think of the emotion you want to convey as you breathe in.

Tip 9: START

You’re ready to start: Stand confidently and smile.

Tip 10: SUCCESS

Take another breath and remember our Nudge mantra “I love presenting and I’m interesting to listen to” ……

Ask yourself, ‘If I had only sixty seconds on the stage, what would I absolutely have to say to get my message across.
